Merion Golf Club – fifth hole, par 4, 504 yards

East Course, Ardmore, Pennsylvania
Years: 1934, 1950, 1971, 1981, 2013

Merion’s fifth hole is as tough as par-4’s come. At over 500 yards, bunkers flank an already tight fairway which tilts towards a creek that runs all the way up the left side to the green. However, the green is massive with a right-to-left slope. It’s also lighting quick. In 2013, 83 percent of players who missed the fairway made bogey or worse. In 1971, it averaged 4.47.
