Gun Shots Fired at Course Over Empty Beer Cans

There have been many disputes at golf courses before, but this is by far one of the strangest and most terrifying we’ve come across.

Things escalated quickly at a Detroit-area golf course when gunshots were fired after a confrontation broke out over empty beer cans between a course employee and a couple of golfers, which ended in a physical struggle. Fortunately, there were no serious injuries.

Local 4 WDIV has the story

There’s a sign out front of the Heather Highlands Golf Course that says no (outside) alcohol is permitted. That rule was broken Saturday, and it sparked an argument that ended with gunfire. A 45-year-old man from Grand Blanc who works at the course confronted golfers about empty beer cans, according to the Oakland County Sheriff’s Office.

The argument escalated, and the employee pulled out a gun. He fired a shot, and possibly two more, police said. Patrons and golfers attacked the employee, trying to disarm him.

Police said the employee was injured during the fight. He was taken to the hospital, and after his release was transported to the Oakland County Jail.

The Oakland County Sheriff’s Office said they have a two-count warrant — one for felonious assault and one for reckless discharge of a firearm.
