You don't see this every day... pic.twitter.com/sNprvC53ZE— The European Tour (@EuropeanTour) March 12, 2017
Chances are at some point in your life you’ve been to the driving range and attempted to hit the ball picking cart. Don’t worry, we’re guilty of it too. That’s what it’s there for, right? However, you probably never have seen something like this happen during a professional event inside the ropes.
On Sunday at the European Tour’s Hero Indian Open contested at DLF Golf & Country Club, Englishman David Horsey hit his tee shot on the ninth hole and it took a bounce off the fairway and unexpectedly ended up in a moving rules official’s cart! Granted Horsey wasn’t aiming at him, or so we think, but why the official was there in the middle of play is beyond us. Fortunately, the ball rolled out of the cart and into the fairway where Horsey made par and went on to tie for eighth. For what it’s worth, S.S.P. Chawrasia won the event by seven shots.
While that was the first time we can recall a ball winding up in a rules cart, we are reminded of the time during the 2016 Ryder Cup where Brooks Koepka hit a driver that ended up in another strange place – opponent Thomas Pieters’ dad’s backpack.
You won’t believe where this @BKoepka drive ends up.
