Caddies Take Aim At Sawgrass’ 17th

While the 17th hole island green of TPC Sawgrass lurking this week, looking to make a mess of contenders’ scorecards, it sits as a fun, almost tourist-like attraction for caddies and their golfers. Everyone seems to lighten up on the tee during the practice rounds. A couple guys even hit their shots from the opposite side on Tuesday. On Wednesday, it was the caddies’ turn to take aim at the 17th.

Now, most caddies on the PGA Tour are pretty good players in their own right, especially Ted Scott, but it’s nice to see how we amateurs might fare taking a cut on 17. I mean, watching a caddie do it is about as close as most of us will get to playing it for real ourselves, right?

Tim Finchem Addresses Tiger Woods’ Absence

Ever since Tiger Woods announced that he’d miss the Masters for the first time since turning pro, all the talk has been about when he will make his return to golf and the impact his absence has on the game. PGA Tour Commissioner Tim Finchem addressed the issue during a press conference at this week’s Players Championship and acknowledged that even without the world No. 1 teeing it up, the game would be “fine.”

“Everybody looks at it, when Tiger is not going to play, there are bad things happening,” Finchem said. “I don’t look at it that way. When Tiger plays, good things happen. When he doesn’t, it’s fine.”

While that may be true, it’s hard to deny the results of his Masters absence on ticket prices, television audiences and attendance. Most people aren’t panicking and are downplaying just how important it is that Woods is in the field, but it’s clear that things aren’t the same.

What Would The Pros Do To ‘Hack’ Golf?

We’ve all played golf long enough to experience slow, dragging rounds. We’ve also all wished the hole were a little bigger, that the ball would fly a little farther, that the rough were a little less rough, and that fairways were about a mile wide. With growing the game and solving slow play in mind, the folks at Hack Golf have been looking for ideas to better both.

I’m not going to lie, all of these sound pretty good to me. A part of me would miss the challenge but no part of me would miss the high scores. Making triple-bogey is never fun.

Golfstradamaus: The Players Championship

This week the PGA Tour heads to the Ponte Vedra Beach, Fla., for the Players Championship. Lovingly known by pros and golf nerds alike as the “fifth major,” players don’t just want, most of them need to win in this tournament for their resumes.

The Players is also a gambler’s paradise. The field at the Players is typically one of the strongest all year and thanks to that, a lot of players who are normally going off at 15/1, 20/1 and 25/1 are getting 40/1, 50/1 and even 100/1 money this week. Read More
