Welcome to The Fringe, Back9Network’s newest daily feature created to keep you up-to-date on the best stories happening in golf, social media and pop culture.

Now On The Tee

Last Monday I gave Ian Poulter’s son the spotlight and guess what, he’s going to get it again. This kid is definitely hooked on golf and his swing isn’t too shabby either. Before you know it, he’ll consider himself among the top-five players in the world as well. Wait, too soon? We’ll get to Patrick Reed’s comment in a second, but for now, enjoy Joshua Poulter’s latest video.

How come I didn’t think of that when I was younger!? He’s even got his older brother, Luke, fetching the balls for him.

Tweet of the Week

How many golf courses have you been to that have a helicopter pad built into the design? I’m sure not many, but at Trump National Doral, host of this past week’s WGC-Cadillac Championship, The Donald had his chopper on display for all to see. Bubba Watson took to Twitter last Monday and expressed his excitement:

I guess Bubba’s already looking for more goodies to add to his impressive toy collection, even though he picked up a bulletproof truck from Oakley Sports just a couple months ago.

I’m Really Happy For You, Imma Let You Finish, But…

Patrick Reed’s win at the WGC-Cadillac Championship was one of the best of ALL TIME.

Following his victory Sunday, Reed went on the record saying he believes he’s one of the top-five players in the world. Okay seriously, should we praise him for being confident, proud, straight-forward  and a bit arrogant while giving us something to talk about? Or is he getting a little ahead of himself? Back9′s Jon Ackerman breaks it down in this week’s Weekend Recap.

Extreme Dedication

For many of us around the United States, who’ve been dealing with what seems to be endless snowstorms, the thought of looking at more snow is almost sickening at this point. This isn’t the case, however for what may be one of the coolest golf photos I’ve seen this winter. It comes from the Joe Root Frosbite Open and is being featured on the USGA’s website.

In Case You Missed It

By now, we’ve all heard about Dustin Johnson’s fiancée, Paulina Gretzky. She’s featured in TaylorMade’s new Speed Police commercials, she graced the cover of Maxim’s December issue and her father is also pretty well known… you know Wayne “The Great One” Gretzky. Well there’s another girl amongst the Johnson-Johnson duo who’s starting to get noticed – Sam Maddox. Here’s a look at the beginning of what could become golf’s next power couple.

Times were tough this past week for the players who teed it up at Trump National Doral. The scoring average for the week ended up being 73.952 and a total of 318 golf balls found the water. Luke Donald found himself in a different type of situation Friday when a fan decided to swipe his golf ball after he hit it into the right rough. I mean, aren’t we all tempted to pick up that Pro-V we stumble upon when we’re out on the course?

Out of Bounds

From shooting golf trick shot videos to capturing the best of “point of view” action shots in sports, GoPro has changed the way we’re able to produce video. GoPro’s newest video featuring this Pelican learning how to fly for the first time, confirms it.
