Welcome to The Fringe, Back9Network’s daily feature created to keep you up-to-date on the best stories happening in golf, social media and pop culture.

Go Long Challenge

When you’re on the driving range and that person three spots down is hitting driver, so you go to pull out yours, admit it: It’s turned into a long-drive contest. All of a sudden you guys are now in this weird rhythm where you’re either timing your shots together or you’re teeing it up simultaneously to see what your “opponent” is doing. Well, if you’re in the Santa Ana, Calif., area on Wednesday, you can meet and try to out-drive LPGA and Cobra-Puma Golf star Lexi Thompson.

Yes, YOU will have the chance to test your skills (and ego) against once of the LPGA’s top players. According to’s stats, Thompson’s average driving distance is 276.118 yards. I hope someone will be there recording the action and if I get my hands on video, you can be sure to find it right here on The Fringe.

The Most Interesting Race

By now I’m sure you’re aware that Miguel Angel Jimenez is indeed “Golf’s Most Interesting Man.” From his loyal fans imitating his distinctive hairstyle to the most talked-about stretching routine in all of sports, the man is most certainly very interesting. While prepping for this week’s EurAsia Cup in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, Jimenez, who is captain for Team Europe, faced off against Asia’s team captain, Thongchai Jaidee, in a simulated racing game. Here’s a look at some of the photos for your entertainment:

Hey Miguel, I’m pretty sure that’s NOT how you get out of an F1 race car… but I get it, you’re keeping things interesting again.

Kate Upton, Justin Verlander Spotted at Arnold Palmer Invitational

Kate Upton and Justin Verlander were enjoying time well spent this past weekend in Orlando. The Detroit Tigers pitcher and Sports Illustrated swimsuit model were spotted taking up the festivities at the Arnold Palmer Invitational.

This is not the first time the duo has been caught under the watchful public eye. Back in January, some fans spotted Upton and Verlander attending a Philadelphia Flyers NHL game. And prior to that, they were seen wining and dining at a local Tampa restaurant. Read More

Out of Bounds

If you’ve ever had to wait for a bus, you know the experience can’t be all that great. Pepsi Max recently decided to do something about that by making one of the coolest bus shelters ever (I can’t believe I just wrote that). I’m not sure what the best part of this video is, the reactions on people’s faces or how awesome this thing really is.
