Phil Mickelson Could Face Fines for Wager With Fan

Phil Mickelson’s proclivities on the course during practice rounds are well-known. The man makes a good living taking risks, so it’s no surprise that he likes to gamble and gamble with high stakes. But it’s one little bet he made during The Barclays that could cost him a whole lot more.

On Saturday, Mickelson made a small wager on the 18th hole with a fan that he would get up and down for birdie from the thick rough at Ridgewood Country Club.

“Just $20. I gave him 4-to-1 odds,” Mickelson said after the round. “I would have made $5 if I made birdie. A par was a push; bogey, I lost; birdie, I would have won.”

The money was no problem for Mickelson — but the potential PGA Tour sanctions might be. Mickelson has once before violated the tour’s rule about gambling but was spared any penalty because that bet didn’t have any baring on the outcome of the tournament. Though nothing has been announced (and if we learned anything from Dustin Johnson’s situation, it probably won’t) by the tour as far as penalties, an infraction of the rule could result in fines or suspension from tour events.

Tweet Of The Week

You know, just because you’re a caddie on tour and a full-fledged adult doesn’t mean you don’t still enjoy the comfort of sleeping with your favorite stuffed animal. Two-time Masters champion caddie Ted Scott is no different. With the stress of the FedExCup playoffs on the horizon, Scott snuggled up with his stuffed giraffe to help him get the R&R he not only needed, but deserved.

After a season’s worth of struggling, Hunter Mahan finally broke out in a big way on Sunday, claiming his first win of the 2013-14 PGA Tour season at The Barclays in Paramus, N.J. The win was Mahan’s first in a FedExCup playoff event. After the victory, he posed with the trophy, his wife, Kandi, and their little girl, Zoe — whose birth he famously left the 2013 RBC Canadian Open while leading to attend. With the win, Mahan moves from 62nd to first in FedExCup points.

By now, just about everyone and their mom has taken part in the Ice Bucket Challenge – either a couple months ago when it was about donating to any charity, or the past few weeks when it got connected with amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS). Love it (because it’s raising millions of dollars) or hate it (because it’s not raising millions of dollars for your favorite charity), you have to admit that these videos are highly entertaining. Read More

Bob Barker Is Back… and Fighting People Again

The Price Is Still Right:

Bob Barker’s fight scene with Adam Sandler in “Happy Gilmore” is one of the most famous and entertaining golf fights ever … not that there’s a lot to choose from. It was a beating for the ages, and one Sandler will likely never forget. (And according to Barker, he could still take Sandler in a fair fight)Read More

Out Of Bounds

YouTube is filled with people paying homage to their favorite movies in some way, shape or form, but this LEGO short of the classic — nay, legendary — comedy “Ghostbusters” might be the best one. Yes, I am one of the world’s biggest fans of the movie and sure, I can recite most of the film. And when I was a kid I did love LEGOs, so my opinion of this magnificent collision of two of my favorite things may be a little biased. That being said, I still think you ought to check it out:
