With Spring officially here, seafood lovers around the country are going to be finding themselves with a hankerin’ for crabs and crab cakes. It may be what Maryland does, along with football, but Aly Waite and Chef Chris spent some time in Orlando at the PGA Merchandise Show demonstrating how to make the perfect crab cake.

Philly is known as the city of “Brotherly love”, making it a fitting location for this year’s 2013 U.S. Open. For starters, champion golfers have a long standing love for the Merion Golf Club, which has played host to more USGA Championships than any other course in the country. The Merion Club continues to “not only challenge the world’s best, but identify them as well” according to the club’s website. Jack Nicklaus once said of the Merion Club, “Acre for acre, (Merion) may be the best test of golf in the world.”
Finally, Memorial Day has officially kicked off summer, paving the way for – you guessed it – wedding season! You probably have received an invitation or two already in the mail. So I’ve compiled some helpful hints on what to do/not do – a refresher course on wedding etiquette, if you may.
Last week we all know Sergio Garcia lost to Tiger Woods in The Players Championship in incredible fashion. All I kept thinking afterwards was, “What do you say to him if you are his significant other?”
This week, two very well-known celebrities admitted to joining the uber popular dating site Match.com. This prompted one of my best friends to test the online dating waters as well. Lets meet our girls …
Sir Richard Branson, the British business mogul and owner of the posh Virgin America Airlines, has set out to make the friendly skies even friendlier.
A few nights ago I couldn’t sleep, but luckily for my viewing pleasure, “He’s Just Not That Into You” was on TV. I always liked this romantic comedy (Big surprise, right? A girl likes a movie …
It’s official — Facebook official, so you know its the real deal — Tiger Woods and Lindsey Vonn are dating. The pair took to their Facebook pages to make the announcement that they are, in fact, an item (although speculation about the romance had been brewing for months). Some would argue that they are now golf’s First Couple, stealing the title from erstwhile top-ranked Rory McIlroy and his tennis-star girlfriend, Caroline Wozniacki. Personally I’m just happy for both couples that share that ultimate competitive drive.
It’s time for madness — March Madness! I am more of a bandwagon bracket-baller myself, but I still enjoy getting into the spirit of college hoops. I have been known to predict who’s going to the big dance based on their cute mascot. Have you seen the adorable tree Stanford has? And lets not leave out Puddles the Oregon Duck!
While inside hibernating in the warmth, I came across several articles this week that really got me thinking. One in particular appeared in Psychology Today regarding missed connections in Wal-Mart, of all places. Missed connections is apparently a section on Craig’s List where people proclaim their unrequited love, hoping to get that second chance to be reunited with a perfect stranger who they locked eyes with but didn’t initially have the balls to do anything about it. Enter Craig’s List where they post when/where they spotted their would be love prospect along with their personal contact information. Apparently Wal-Mart is by far the most popular place for love at first sight…then lost. I really wonder how many make a re-connection from Craigslist. This whole thing is so baffling to me.
I admit it. I tuned into the Oscars, but this year I discovered a way to make them even more appealing: DVR. This way I could fast forward through all the boring speeches and get to the good stuff like what all the A-listers were wearing. Adding to the excitement this year, my husband and I each filled out a ballot beforehand, guessing the winners of each category. I fared pretty well considering I had only seen about half of the films nominated. Having something invested in the show made it even more appealing and a friendly competition with the hubs made for added enjoyment. In honor of the Oscars I’ve decided to write my own recommendations as well as films to pass on for date movies.
I hope everyone had a great Valentine’s Day! I put my cooking skills to the test with gluten-free, heart-shaped mini-pizzas and heart-shaped tortellinis. The best part was the Silver Oak wine and the company of my hubby, of course! Now on to the least sexiest holiday: Presidents Day! But if you are in the market for a new car or home furniture, you’re probably jazzed up about the Presidents Day deal you could score. And if saving money is a turn on for you then this could be your holiday after all. I might try and score a new chaise lounge myself. Oh, la, la!
I can’t believe it’s February already! And with Valentine’s Day next week, I feel some good, solid love and V-day advice is in order. I should know; after all, I have had some amazing Valentine’s. For instance, when I was single, I went to see the Justin Bieber movie in 3-D (after I consumed lots of wine, of course) and, last year, my hubby and I just got room service while in Vegas. But there has also been some not-so-great Valentine’s memories, like when I had to interview Spencer Pratt and Heidi Montague during their 15 minutes of fame for “Extra!” Watching them proclaim their love for one another while swapping spit was something I’d rather not relive, but, hey, love is love.
What a week! Super Bowl Sunday and great golf at the Phoenix Open. Let’s just say if you aren’t pumped up for all the fun festivities, chances are you might be a big stick in the mud! I’m in New Orleans, and I can hardly wait to take in all the pandemonium NOLA has to offer. First stop, Super Bowl Boulevard for some gumbo and amazing fan spectating. I’m impartial since my team did not make it to the big show (this year) but I am on the look out for the best fan attire. Hopefully I will have some great pics to share next week.
What a fantastic past week in Orlando for the 60th annual PGA Merchandise Show. I met a lot new friends and fabulous people involved with the Back9Network. I also got a chance to check out a lot of golf gadgets, cool kicks and apparel on the showroom floor. It’s always very impressive to see the elaborate set up and aggressive marketing strategies implemented by the big names in the biz. I also got a chance to chat with golf enthusiasts about what else but their love lives (of course!). I figured the PGA Show was the perfect setting to field some face-to-face Ask Ali questions.
In this week’s #AskAliB9N, it’s to be, or not to be…friends that is.
