Cristie Kerr Apologizes For Slow Play, With a Caveat

It took six sudden-death holes to decide a winner at the LPGA’s Volunteers of America Texas Shootout this past Sunday. Sounds exciting, right? Well, if you consider watching over two hours of the same, how shall we say, poorly designed, par-5 18th hole to be exciting, then sure!

Tour veteran Cristie Kerr battled Haru Nomura at a crawling pace for six holes, which caused quite a stir on social media. It mercifully ended when Nomura made a birdie for the win just before sunset, two hours later. The next day Kerr took to Twitter to apologize for slow play, with a caveat.

While it was a professional move on Kerr’s part to acknowledge the situation, the fact is something may need to be done to avoid situations like this in the future.
