Located about 30 minutes from Myrtle Beach and just a few minutes from its sister course, Farmstead Golf Links, Meadowlands Golf Club in Calabash, N.C., is a great course to include in your plans for a trip south.
The par-72, 7,054-yard Willard Byrd-designed course, referred to by some as the “hidden gem of the Carolinas,” offers a truly enjoyable round with a country setting feel that is in reality just a short way from the beach. Water impacts play on almost every hole so bring you’re a game and a couple extra sleeves of balls if you aren’t feeling particularly accurate. Don’t worry, we won’t judge you. In addition to wetlands and meadows, don’t be surprised if you see some local wildlife during your round.
Meadowlands does offer five sets of tees (Raven, Heron, Egret, Hummingbird, Cardinal) that allow the course to play from 5,000 to 7,000 yards so there will be a distance that works for everyone in your group.
Consider including a round or two at the aforementioned Farmstead Golf Links, Carolina Shores, or Crow Creek in your plans while in the area.
Being so close to Myrtle Beach, it’s easy to make that golf mecca your home base and make Meadowlands a day trip, but if you want to be a bit closer to the course or are looking for a bit of a quieter experience, book some rooms at Marsh Harbour Villas, Holiday Inn Express Leland, SpringHill Suites Wilmington Mayfaire, or check out the Brunswick Plantation Golf & Resort.
If you like seafood, then you’re in the right place as many affectionately refer to Calabash as the “Seafood Capital of the World.” There are a ton of dining options including Beck’s, Dockside, The Boundary House, and the Waterfront Seafood Shack.
With fishing, biking, boating, shopping, museums, and hiking all around, plus all that Myrtle Beach offers right down the road, your trip to Calabash should be a memorable one for the golfing, as well as the area.
Marsh Harbour will customize a trip for your group based upon course selection and accommodation choices.
