The Golf Club at Gray’s Crossing
Located about 20 minutes from Lake Tahoe, the Golf Club at Gray’s Crossing offers players a traditional mountain golf experience in a spectacular setting.
AN ACTUAL SANCTUARY
A Peter Jacobsen/Jim Hardy designed par-72, 7,466-yard championship golf course with slick greens and meticulous conditioning befitting of a high-end tournament, the course plays fast and its caretakers pride themselves on presenting a track that forces golfers to make well thought out club choices.
With Mt. Rose in the background and Lodgepole and Jeffrey Pines lining the rather generous fairways, the course, certified as only the second Audubon International Gold Signature Sanctuary in the entire state of California, weaves its way through the natural mountain terrain. Be sure to leave time to grab a pre- or post-round beer or meal at PJ’s at the clubhouse, named in honor of the course’s designer Mr. Jacobsen.
COZY AND COMFORTABLE
The Ritz-Carlton, Lake Tahoe is the perfect to stay in the area. The resort offers golfing privileges at Gray’s Crossing and its sister course, Jack Nicklaus’ Old Greenwood, and features a full-service spa, fine dining, and a host of activities.
Accommodation options at the resort include guest rooms, suites, and residential suites each featuring a full range of amenities including fireplaces, coffee makers, free newspapers, flat-screen digital TVs, free WiFi, pillowtop beds, and deep soaking tubs.
Enjoy indoor or outdoor dining at Manzanita which features familiar dishes with a local California twist. The restaurant also has an open kitchen layout and chef’s table. In the mood for some great BBQ? Head over to the Backyard Bar & BBQ for some traditional barbeque favorites including St. Louis smoked ribs, brisket and pulled pork sandwiches.
Off the course activities are certainly aplenty here, especially with all that the Lake Tahoe area has to offer right outside your door. From hiking to mountain biking to fly fishing to lounging on the beach to parasailing, you won’t be bored.
Be sure to make the Signature Drive, the 72-mile drive all the way around Lake Tahoe or if you are in town in July or August, check out the annual Shakespeare Festival.
Between June and October, golfers can book the High Sierra Golf Experience which from $599 per night includes deluxe accommodations, and two rounds of golf at Gray’s Crossing or Old Greenwood.
