Performance Friday: PGA Professional Craig Hanson

Unless you’re one of the experts giving these lessons, you could probably use a little help with your golf game. The weekend is coming and that means it’s time to play some golf! It also means it would be in your best interest to brush up on your game or face the consequences and ridicule from the other members of your foursome.

Fret not, hackers, duffers and less-than-good golfers of the world, Back9Network is here to help. This week’s Performance Friday comes courtesy of PGA professional Craig Hanson.

Hit the driver long and straight

“You have to keep your nose behind the ball at impact. If you get your head in front of the ball you’ll probably come from the outside and get yourself in all sorts of trouble.”

How to rip your long irons

“Turn your front foot out so that your foot, ankle and knee will get out of the way pretty easy without thinking about it too much. Swinging with a 3/4 back swing and follow-through will help you to trap the ball.”

Hit great bunker shots

“The most important thing is the way you set up. If you set up incorrectly you’ve got no chance.”

Improve your ball striking before your round

“Pop down a shaft and get it to the side of your leg, you can feel and you’ll notice any lateral move off the ball. There has to be some lateral movement to get your weight far enough left so you can compress the ball and hit the ball on the way down.”

Check back every Friday for a new batch of the best golf tips on the web to help you get ready for the weekend. May your drives be straight and your tales be tall.
