Video: How Wooden Golf Clubs Are Made

Although they’re no longer used (or shouldn’t be used), wooden golf clubs were once the bee’s knees. Before “metal woods” became the more traditionally used clubs in the 1980s, persimmon woods were the clubs to own.

While we don’t always think about how equipment is made, crafting wooden golf clubs require quite the time and effort. It’s an art, really.

Nowadays, we have custom, fully-adjustable drivers that let golfers hit the ball farther than ever. Just about the only thing that’s custom about persimmon woods is the stain color of the club.

As with anything, there will be those who stick to their favorite type of club, be it titanium, persimmon, or even beech wood:
