It’s so important in the putting stroke that we stay aggressive through the impact area. The moment you change your tempo or decelerate, the clubface and path can easily be affected negatively.
Staying aggressive and striking your putts rather than pushing them will help to keep the ball on the intended target line.
Above you will find a great drill performed by Swing-U instructor Ryan Rustand that will help you with this area of focus.
Here is a step-by-step instruction to perform this drill.
- Place an alignment rod on the ground perpendicular to your intended target line about six inches in front of the hole
- The objective is to strike your putt with the ball rolling over the rod and then falling in the hole
- Be sure to stay aggressive through the stroke to ensure you get the ball over the rod which is acting as a barrier
