When chipping, a very common error among amateur golfers is to flip the clubhead past the hands in the impact area. This is often in an effort to help get the ball up in the air and add some loft to the club.
This technique will produce less-than-consistent results. In reality, we need the handle to lead the clubhead as we get to the impact position. This will create a downward angle of attack and allow for the loft of the club to let the ball rise after being struck.
To help achieve a better impact position, Swing-U instructor Ryan Rustand demonstrates a great drill.
