Mud balls are particularly frustrating because more often than not, they occur on a wet day when you’ve found the fairway. The issue is that the mud can be a bit unpredictable in how it affects your golf ball’s flight.

However, there is a rule of thumb that we can follow that will allow us to figure out what our golf ball is going to do depending on where the mud is. If the mud is on the left side of the ball, your ball is going to tend to move to the right. Conversely, if the mud is on the right side of your ball, it’s going to tend to move to the left.
