Every golfer — amateur or professional — gets to the course and has greens that roll faster than they look. Instead of trying to feel out the speed of the greens initially, take stock of how the practice putting green looks and start your preparation by rolling a few putts by hand.
After you roll a few balls out, see if they roll faster or slower than you expect. When you learn the pace of the greens from your rolls, don’t tell yourself to hit your putts harder or softer, but instead be conscious of your expectations for speed and allow your brain to do the recalibrations for you.
