If you have the tendency to strike the ball towards the heel or even occasionally on the hosel of the club, one of the leading things that causes this problem is instability in the downswing, ie. moving your weight towards your toes with an early transition that pushes the sweet spot outside of the golf ball.

The best way to combat that feeling is to make our back foot feel stable and push more towards the target as opposed to the ball. In order to train that, we want to put ourselves in an unstable position so that we can train our balance.
