When faced with an awkward stance, approach the ball to get a feel for how the stance will impact your swing and desired shot type. Once you’ve got a good feel for how the stance feels, lightly swing your club above the ball to get a feel for the path you’ll need.

Now that you’ve got a good feel for the stance and the swing, step away from the lie and begin your routine as normal. When you step back in to address the ball, the stance and swing will feel more comfortable, which in turn makes it easier to take a confident and committed swing.
