Anyone who has played golf in any sizable capacity has heard the adage “never up, never in.” Simply put, the quote emanates from the reality that a putt that never reaches the hole has no chance of ever going in.

One of the biggest issues that faces golfers on the greens is the fear of hitting the ball too far past the hole. As a result, many golfers decelerate through impact, imparting too little speed on the ball and thus come up short.

The next time you’re on the practice green, use your pointer finger as a means to this end while visualizing the motion of moving your finger through a candle flame at impact to ensure a positive, accelerating stroke.
