Comparing the latest editions of its fairway wood lines, the research and development team at Titleist was able to take the high-launching and forgivable 917F2 and improve upon it in this year’s TS2.

The Titleist 917F2 introduced SureFit® CG technology, which allows the center of gravity to be moved from a back, heel position to a forward, toe position through interchangeable weights, optimizing spin and launch conditions for every player. Another key piece of innovation in the 917F2 was the recoil channel in the sole of the club that provided increased speed and lower spin.

The new TS2 attempted to improve upon the strides made in previous editions. The 2019 version introduced a Speed Chassis, which has a 27% thinner crown and improved face flexibility. The engineers also optimized the recoil channel that will offer more speed off the face than the 917F2.

Getting a complete overall performance picture of the club by using a five-point contact regiment, the TS2 launched about one degree higher and spun about 200 RPMs more than the 917F2, making it much easier than its predecessor to get up in the air from the tee or turf.

Perhaps most importantly, there was no drop-off in distance between the two clubs, but the dispersion pattern of the TS2 was much tighter than that of the 917F2. On all contact points, the TS2 averaged 4.2 yards off the centerline compared to an average of 11 yards off-center for the 917F2.

The player profile for the TS2 is a golfer who struggles to launch their fairway woods high into the air as well as a player looking for more control when hitting less than driver off the tee or into the green.

If you’d like to test out the a fairway wood for yourself before buying, get a 14-day trial with GlobalGolf’s Utry™ program, which allows you to select up to two brand new clubs at a time for only $25 each, or an iron set for $100.

For 14 days after you receive your clubs, try them out where, when, and how you want. If you love them, you can keep them and GlobalGolf will deduct the trial amount from your purchase. If you don’t want to keep the clubs, simply return them using the prepaid label included in the box.
