Prior to being awarded the Presidential Medal of Freedom from Barack Obama, golf pioneer Charlie Sifford sat down with Lou Holder of The Turn. Sifford, a cigar aficionado, talked about his favorite type, as well as the reasoning behind holding one in his mouth while on the course.
“I’d put it in my mouth to keep my teeth from touching, and you won’t be nervous,” Sifford said. “And I just picked up the cigar … most of the time it wasn’t lit,” he joked.
