JT Stores Wanamaker At Rickie’s During Irma

Justin Thomas may be good friends with Jordan Spieth, but Rickie Fowler isn’t too far behind. On Wednesday, PGA Champion Justin Thomas, who’s a Jupiter, Florida resident, explained how he prepped for Hurricane Irma, including what he did with the coveted Wanamaker Trophy.

“I had some valuables that I actually just took to Rickie’s house down the street because he has a safe that’s kind of – that’s built in the ground and is a little more sturdy than I may have … took the Wanamaker, took some watches and some other valuables and put them in there,” Thomas said at the BMW Championship. “I figured at least I have those if everything goes.”

“We got very, very lucky,” Thomas said. “Jupiter — I shouldn’t say we, I mean the state of Florida got hammered and it’s awful the last couple of weeks what the hurricanes have done. Growing up Louisville I never had to deal with anything like this. You just have to deal with a tornado every once in awhile, but even those are usually never anything crazy.”

With five wins including a major — not to mention a 59 in a Tour event and a 63 in the U.S. Open — Thomas is the favorite to be named the PGA Tour’s Player of the Year. A victory this week at Conway Farms would all but guarantee it.

No word yet on where that trophy may be stored.
