Sergio’s Newborn’s Name is Masters-Inspired

Masters champion Sergio Garcia is the proud father of a baby girl and the reigning owner of the Green Jacket is using an Augusta-themed name for his first born.

Garcia, 38, and his wife Angela welcomed Azalea Adele Garcia into the world at 1:54 a.m. on Wednesday.

Garcia, who conducted interviews from the delivery room on Tuesday afternoon, named his daughter after the famed Azalea’s at Augusta National Golf Club.  Augusta’s par-5 13 hole is nicknamed Azalea and he made par en route to a playoff victory over Justin Rose for his first major win.

Garcia  finished fourth at Valspar Championship on Sunday and then found himself in Texas, awaiting the birth of his first child.

“It’s kind of surreal, I guess you may say,” Garcia said in the conference call per ESPN.  “It’s a different feeling. I am excited and a little bit nervous for Angela and the baby to make sure everything goes well. It’s funny how the timing … it was supposed to be on Sunday, but it looks like she’s coming a little bit early, and we’re excited. Everything looks good. We can’t wait.”

Garcia has played in every major championship since 1999, a span of 74 tournaments.
