Bullets Fly By Golfers At Florida Golf Course

Golfers at the J.W. Marriott Turnberry Resort north of Miami were rushing for cover on Sunday as gunshots rang out and bullets flew into a nearby lake during their round.

Among the golfers on the course were musicians Nick and Kevin Jonas as well as Jordan McGraw and drummer Jack Lawless, according to The Daily MailThe pop stars reported feeling a bullet fly by them before splashing in a nearby lake.

“We are aware of a situation that is being reported,” representatives for the JW Marriott Miami Turnberry Resort and Spa said in a statement released on Tuesday morning. “The safety and security of our guests and employees is always a top priority. Because this matter is under police department investigation, it would be inappropriate to comment further.”

The Jonas brothers filed a police report after their round which stated that on the 17th hole the men heard a loud pop and immediately took cover. Law enforcement relayed that there had been a similar complaint earlier that day as well as another complaint from a few weeks earlier detailing a similar experience.

Police believe that the shots were coming from a nearby high-rise condominium and that the bullets being fired were from a BB or pellet gun that was attempting to shoot ducks that were in the area.

Someone from a high floor in a condo building adjacent to the golf course shot with a pellet or BB gun at ducks in the pond where they played.

“Sunday’s incident is the second similar incident. The way witnesses describe the sound of the gun is a ‘pop,’ compressed-air pop. That’s why we believe it’s a BB-gun,” Aventura Police Major Michael Bentolila said. “We’re not taking it lightly. This is dangerous for humans and animals. We are spending resources on trying to find out who’s doing this.”

Police told NBCMiami.com that the investigation is ongoing.

“This remains a very active investigation and we are utilizing all of our resources in trying to find out who is responsible,” police said in a statement. “This is an ongoing investigation at this time and no other information is available.”
