Tiger Docks $20 Million Yacht Near U.S. Open

Tiger Woods will be sleeping in his own bed — or one of them — as he attempts to win his first major championship since 2008 next week at the U.S. Open to be held at Shinnecock Hills Golf Club in Southhampton, New York.

According to PageSix.com, Woods’ $20 million, 155-foot yacht “Privacy” was docked at Gurney’s Yacht Club in Montauk, a luxury resort about 25 miles east of Shinnecock Hills.

Privacy, which was purchased by Woods in 2004, can sleep 10 people in five cabins and features a theatre room and gym. A staff of nine people man the boat at an operating cost of $2 million per year. Woods tried to sell the boat in 2011, but to no avail.

Next week’s U.S. Open will be only the third time he’s played in his national open in the last six years. In his last U.S. Open appearance, Woods missed the cut at Chambers Bay in 2015. Two years before that, he finished in a tie for 32nd at Merion.

This year’s Open marks the 10-year anniversary of Woods’ triumph at Torrey Pines. His USGA exemption into the event will also run out after this year unless he can qualify via one of the tournament’s avenues, the most likely of which is to get inside the top-60 in the Official World Golf Rankings. Already this season, Woods has climbed from No. 1,199 to No. 80 in the world.
