Tiger Woods on Forbes List of ‘Richest Entrepreneurs Under 40’

Mixed in among a horde of Silicon Valley application creators and Wall Street investors on Forbes’ inaugural list of the 40 Richest Entrepreneurs Under 40 is Tiger Woods and his golf clubs.

Making his first and only appearance on the esteemed list — he’ll turn 40 on Dec. 30 — Woods comes in as the 26th richest self-made American under the age of 40 with a net worth of $700 million.

According to the article, Woods has earned around $1.35 billion (with a ‘B’) since turning pro in 1996 and only just over 10% of that total came in the form of on-course earnings. That means that the vast of Woods’ fortune — some $1.215 billion — came from endorsements with the likes of Nike, Accenture, AT&T, Buick, Gatorade, Hero, MusclePharm and Rolex. Another key to Woods’ wealth is the “wildly lucrative” pension plan on the PGA Tour

Though Woods’ $700 million worth is is impressive, his wallet was significantly downsized when he lost $100 million to his ex-wife Elin Nordegren in their 2010 divorce. Nordegren’s $100 million wouldn’t crack the top-40, however. Apoorva Mehta ranked 40th with a net worth of $400 million.
