The Longest Closest-to-the-Pin Contest Ever

The shortest distance between two points is a straight line. It’s science. That very same principle applies to golf and the technical term for it is “cutting the corner.” Whether it’s a dogleg left or right, shortening the hole by taking the more aggressive line is a risk that may be worth the reward. Usually, this requires a healthy drive over some sort of obstacle, most typically trees or water. But this here is absurd.

The big hitters from the World Long Drive Association headed over to Bay Hill prior to the playing of the PGA Tour’s Arnold Palmer Invitational for a challenge unlike any other. The object was a closest-to-the-pin contest on the 555-yard par-5 sixth hole. No, this is not a typo. The catch is that this particular par-5 is a huge dogleg left that runs along the edge of a lake and if you can carry it 350 yards off the tee, you can legitimately hit the green in one.

In an amazing display of power and precision, the boys took their hacks with Kevin Shook ultimately winning it at an unbelievable close distance of 40’5″ from the hole!

“Easy par from there,” he said afterward. Yeah, we think so too!
