PGA Tour Wives Upset Husbands In Wiffle Ball Classic

Despite spotting their husbands five runs in the top of the first inning, the PGA Tour wives clamped down on defense and put up two runs in the final inning to take the Third Annual Wiffle Ball Classic on Tuesday night, 13-12. You can be sure they’ll gloat about the victory for a year, until the next McGladrey Classic takes place.

It didn’t help that local hero Matt Kuchar played left-handed and popped into a double play. But the goal of the night was to have fun, and that mission was accomplished, especially by the dozens of kids who also ran around on the field.

The charity game was run by the PGA Tour Wives Association and held at Frederica Academy, a few miles away from the Sea Island Golf Club at which the PGA Tour will play the McGladrey Classic this week. The money raised from the event goes to Blessings in a Backpack, an organization that gives food to impoverished children so they have plenty to eat on weekends when they’re not in school.

A total of $20,000 was raised this year. Here are some sights and sounds from the game:
