Seriously, how come no one thought of this sooner?
Possibly the greatest golf movie ever, “Happy Gilmore,” hit theaters 17 long years ago, yet quotes from that classic are routinely uttered on golf courses all across the world to this day.
“Why you don’t you just go home? That’s your home! Are you too good for your home?”
“Looks like somebody’s closer!”
“The price is wrong, [Bob]”!
Of course, the most memorable visuals from the movie are Happy’s tee shots. The former hockey player forgoes the standard set-foot shot and instead uses an unforeseen walk-up approach.
Finally, the geniuses at the European Tour gathered some real pros to summon their best Happy Gilmore drives. Some clocked their tee shots quite nicely. Others flubbed theirs like every day duffers. And Phil Mickelson rolled his into some photographers. Granted, Lefty’s attempt was made with a right-handed driver.
When all was said and done, the “Happiest Gilmore” award went to none other than Back9Network ambassador Padraig Harrington. The Irishman crushed one 328 yards. Have a look:
Harrington, of course, is no stranger to starring in European Tour spots. Back in May he put on a show by nailing a driving range’s ball collector. Last month’s best Euro Tour video featured Rory McIlroy challenging and talking trash to a robot.
The videos have been coming out of Europe for a few years now. Here are few more of the classics:
The 200-yard gong shot:
The Clay Pigeon Golf Shot:
The Gunpowder Golf Shot:
We’re not sure what’s better, the shots or the player reactions.
