Richard H. Lee Whiffs Twice on 17, Endures Trash Talk from Daughter

Big numbers on the scorecard at TPC Sawgrass’ 17th hole usually come courtesy of dunking a tee shot (or two) in the water surrounding the island green. In the case of Richard H. Lee on Sunday, he made a big number without the, uh, benefit, of putting his first shot in the wet stuff.

If at first you don’t succeed, try again … and then Lee topped it again, even after changing weapons.

If that weren’t embarrassing enough, Lee’s 7-year-old daughter talked a little trash when Dad got home:

But Lee was a good sport about the blunder, suggesting he might appear on ESPN’s “Not Top 10”:

Now, if anyone has ever played on Bermuda grass, you know how spongy it is and you’ve probably topped one that popped up and went nowhere. I’m sure Lee will be fine and continue on to greater things on the PGA Tour, but for now he’s left us with one of the more memorable blunders by a professional golfer.

And for that friendly reminder that things like this happen to everyone, even the pros, we thank him.
