Rory McIlroy is in Shanghai for this week’s World Golf Championships HSBC Champions and being the marketing maven that he is, McIlroy did a bit of cross promoting for sponsors Bose and Nike ahead of the event.
Following the event, McIlroy (or someone on his team) posted photos to his Facebook fan page.
Nothing odd about this, yet, but just wait.
Intrepid McIlroy fan Barry Edwards took a shot in the dark and queried the former No. 1 about his old Nike driver, undoubtedly aware that McIlroy had recently put the new Nike Vapor Fly prototype driver in the bag and had some old Covert’s sitting around collecting dust.
Savvy of McIlroy to quell expectations by not promising any 320-yard drives, but there’s little doubt that this will do anything but encourage more fans to request old equipment from Tour pros on social media.
