The Odds: Rory McIlroy Favorite at The Players

It’s time for The Players Championship, which means plenty of discussion regarding whether the tournament should be considered the golf’s fifth major.

Regardless of which side of the line you stand, the $10 million purse and star-studded field make this week’s Players Championship at TPC Sawgrass a marquee event.

Rory McIlroy opens as the favorite at the LVH SuperBook with odds of 12-to-1, but he’s not alone in that neighborhood. Adam Scott and Matt Kuchar, at 15-to-1 apiece, also own a price in the teens.

As far as the rest of the competitors, Brian Blessing likes a trio of long shots this week.

Patrick Reed anchor

“Patrick Reed at 80-to-1 was a bit too brash after winning earlier in Florida this year and the backlash may have hurt him,” says Brian. “I think enough time has passed, and he could be sitting on a big performance.

“Louis Oosthuizen, also at 80-to-1, had one killer hole at the Masters that derailed his chances. This number is too high.

“Jamie Donaldson, 100-to-1, is currently ranked second on the European Tour and has plenty of game.”
