Angry Pieters Fires Driver After Poor Tee Shot

We recently brought you the story of European Tour pro Thomas Pieters using his golf bag as a “for sale” sign to attract would-be sponsors to pony up some endorsement dollars.

On Saturday, that association may have become a little tougher to stomach for some advertisers as the former Ryder Cupper let loose with one of his now-patented club throws.

Teeing off in the third round of the Maybank Championship in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, Pieters clearly was unhappy with where his drive was headed, and decided to send his driver in a similar direction.

Pieters played his first 45 holes of the event in 8-under par and found himself in contention, but his back nine on Saturdy undid any title hopes he may have had. Pieters went on a 7-hole stretch that included three double bogeys, two bogeys, a par and an eagle, which led to a back-nine 42 and a Saturday 78.

When it comes fits of anger, Pieters is no stranger, as Golf.com’s Dylan Dethier chronicled following the above club throw going viral in golf circles. Calling the driver tomahawk “fairly tame” for Pieters.

Pieters bounced back with a Sunday 71 to tie for 41st place, 12 shots back of the winner, Scott Hend.
