Bowditch Enlists 16-Year-Old Caddie

When you’ve missed 35 of your last 37 cuts on the PGA Tour, conventional knowledge gets thrown out the window. That’s exactly what Australian Tour pro Steven Bowditch did this week at the John Deere Classic, crowd-sourcing his caddie for the event on Twitter.

“Any local kids/college players in the Quad cities area that are interested in caddying in the tournament this week, this thread is for you,” Bowditch wrote. “The best response/reason gets the job. 2pm Tues start, finish Friday. 1% chance Sunday. Payment: all leftover gloves and balls are yours.”

Self-deprecating to the highest degree, Bowditch received more than 200 public responses and undoubtedly many more in his private message, and announced on Monday that he had picked 16-year-old Elias Francque to loop for him.

Bowditch, who has won twice on Tour, hasn’t made a cut since 2017’s Wyndham Championship. Francque hopes to help change that as he makes his professional caddying debut on Thursday at 2:50 p.m. alongside Kevin Streelman and Kris Blanks.
