CBS Suing For $1 Million Worth Of Stolen Cameras At PGA Championship

The drama on Sunday at this past year’s PGA Championship at Bethpage Black only began with Brooks Koepka capturing his fourth major championship, a lawsuit alleges.

CBS Sports filed a lawsuit in Brooklyn Federal Court against California-based security company Contemporary Services Corp. for negligence and is seeking $987,243.74 in damages after 64 cameras and other equipment were stolen from the broadcast compound in the hours following Koepka’s winning putt dropping.

According to a report from The New York Post, thieves made away with nearly $1 million in equipment in the early hours of Monday, May 20 in a robbery that required significant time and would have resulted in noticeable noise, the suit alleges.

The thieves “would have needed substantial time to steal a large number of separate pieces of bulky camera equipment in this manner” and “would have created substantial noise and should have attracted the attention of (CSC) personnel,” the lawsuit stated.

The suit goes on to say that a security guard witnessed the theft taking place as a number of individuals moved around in the dark while carrying large black duffel bags, but took no action.

CBS Sports employees found the more than 5 dozen cameras missing the following morning amidst a scene that led them to believe the theft was neither quick nor quiet. Personnel came to this conclusion after noticing that the cameras were not properly released from their tripods and other holders, but instead broken off their posts, which left broken equipment scattered throughout the area.

CSC did not return requests for comment from the NY Post.
