Donald Shares Funny Old Photo Of Garcia

Luke Donald has been playing well recently, similar to the form he showed earlier in his career when he reached World No. 1.

Whether or not his turning-back-the-clock level of play had Donald nostalgic for yesteryear or he simply came across some old pictures in his archive, his social media followers are the beneficiaries.

Just over a year ago, Donald posted a picture of himself, Ian Poulter and Lee Westwood enjoying a night out at the BBC Sports Personality of the Year ceremony that reminded everyone what a terrible idea it was to dye the tips of your hair.

Then on Friday, as Donald jetted from his sectional qualifier where rounds of 65-71 were enough to earn him a spot into next week’s U.S. Open, he went back into his photo history to unload a gem of a picture that featured a bespectacled Donald alongside a 15-year-old Sergio Garcia who was a few years from growing into his clothes.

Donald reported that the photo was from the 1995 European Boys Team Championship where Garcia and his partner, Raul Quiros, beat Donald and Denny Lucas in foursomes, but Donald bested Sergio in singles 2-and-1.

Some 27 years later, the two were paired together for the first two rounds of this week’s RBC Canadian Open, however, neither of them made it to the weekend with Donald missing the 2-under par cut by two strokes and Garcia missing it by three.

Next week, both players will start the third major championship of the year on the 10th tee at Pebble Beach. Donald will play the first two rounds alongside Brendon Todd and Mike Weir, while Garcia is paired with Tommy Fleetwood and Hideki Matsuyama.
