D. Johnson Flexes No. 1 Muscle, Wins in Mexico

Dustin Johnson slammed the door on his first win as world number one at the WGC-Mexico Championship on Sunday at the Club de Golf Chapultepec in Mexico City. It’s his fourth WGC win (second all-time) and also marks back to back wins since his victory at the Genesis Open at Riviera. Johnson couldn’t buy a putt on day one missing several inside of five feet, but after two consecutive 66s, he was right back in the mix.

He came out firing on Sunday going out in 31 and seemingly on his way to a runaway victory. But two bogeys on 12 and 13 brought a host of players back from the dead, including rookie stud Jon Rahm, who made some noise down the stretch. But DJ flexed his athletic muscle when he got it up and down out of the sand on the par-5 15th for birdie. Then on 18, he hit this “chippy sand wedge,” from an awkward stance out of a fairway bunker to 20-feet to seal the victory:

Here the final round highlights and results:

The PGA Tour is back in action this week for the Valspar Championship at Innisbrook Resort’s Copperhead course, home of the “snake pit,” in Palm Harbor, Florida.
