After salvaging a single point in the morning session of fourball on Friday, the European Ryder Cup team turned a historic afternoon foursomes session into a 5-3 lead following the first day of the 42nd Ryder Cup.
Europe needed just 60 holes to sweep the afternoon session, the fewest amount of holes required to take an entire session in Ryder Cup history.
Europe is now +13 in foursomes point differential on home soil since 2006.

“There were a few guys sitting out this morning that you normally see in the first session, but they were very keen to go out and play this afternoon and prove that we are a team and we do it with all 12,” European captain Thomas Bjorn said. “We’re one team and did it with all 12 today. That was the plan through the whole week. We wanted to get everybody on the golf course today.
“Those guys that sat out this morning, I’m very proud of what they did because they came out and showed quality and class.”

The Europeans kept their collective foot on the pedal in the Saturday morning fourball session winning three of the four matches to take a commanding 8-4 lead heading into the Saturday afternoon foursomes.
