European Tour Pro Drives 300-Yard Green With Iron

Here’s your weekly dose of “the modern golf ball goes too far.” Over the weekend at the BMW South African Open, European Tour rookie Jordan Smith pulled 3-iron on the tee of the 303-yard (277 meters) par-4 12th hole… and he wasn’t laying up.

The 24-year-old Englishman admittedly was playing the hole slightly downhill and downwind, but to fly a ball pin high with a 3-iron is insane.

Of course, the shot is only as good as the putt that follows it, and Smith jarred it for an eagle 2 en route to a final-round 68 and his best-ever finish on the European Tour, solo third.
