Fans Fall As Fence Collapses At PGA

A scary moment unfolded during Monday at Bellerive Country Club as fans near the 18th green were seeking autographs ahead of this week’s 100th PGA Championship. The temporary fencing gave way, dropping fans some eight feet to the ground below.

Golf Channel’s Todd Lewis was close by interviewing players about course conditions when the fence broke.

Lewis reported that although several fans were shaken up by the fall, no one required serious medical attention. Players such as Jim Furyk and Jordan Spieth came over to check on the fallen fans and tried to ease some tension by signing autographs.

The PGA of America released a statement that read, “The safety of spectators is our top priority. This afternoon the temporary fencing in the spectator areas around the course was inspected and reinforced as needed to ensure it is secure.”
