Molinari Fires Sunday 62 To Win QL National

Francesco Molinari captured his first career PGA Tour victory in impressive runaway fashion on Sunday at the Quicken Loans National. Entering the final round tied for the 54-hole lead, Molinari shot a course-record tying 8-under par 62 to win by eight shots over Ryan Armour.

Molinari opened up a three-shot lead over his playing partner, Mexico’s Abraham Ancer, and ran away from the field on the start of the back nine by playing the first five holes of the incoming nine in 6-under par. The eight-shot victory was the biggest win on Tour in over three years and the lowest final-round score at the event since Anthony Kim’s Sunday 65 in 2008.

Tiger Woods finished in a tie fourth place thanks to rounds of 70-65-68-66. He is projected to move to No. 67 in the Official World Golf Rankings. He will not play again until this month’s Open Championship at Carnoustie, which begins on July 19.
