Watch: Tour Pro’s Mother Retrieves Broken Putter

There’s no stronger bond than the one between a mother and her child, even inside the ropes. A bizarre scene unfolded at the European Tour’s HNA French Open on Thursday when what appeared to be a crazed fan hopped into a lake to retrieve a club right in the middle of play! As it turns out it was actually the mother of Chinese pro Haotong Li fishing for his putter. True story.

Li tossed his club into the drink out of frustration after bogeying the par-3 11th at Le Golf National in Paris, site of the 2018 Ryder Cup. Not long after, his mom was there to save the day wading into the murky waters to fetch it while Tyrrell Hatton, Thomas Pieters and Alex Noren were on the green watching the events unfold. Once she realized it was missing the head, everybody lost it.

Li played the final seven holes in even par using a sand wedge as a putter. Whether his mother sent him to his room for his bad temper after the round remains to be seen.
