Jason Day Impresses Down The Stretch To Win Wells Fargo

Jason Day proved once again on Sunday at the Wells Fargo Championship that despite his truncated schedule, the 30-year-old Aussie is one of the best players in the world. Rising to No. 7 in the Official World Golf Rankings this week, the former World No. 1 proved that he deserves to remain in the conversation every week he tees it up.

Entering Sunday’s final round, Day held a two-stroke lead over playing partner Nick Watney and looked well on his way to a comfortable victory, but it took some impressive play down the stretch to bounce back from two straight bogeys on the 13th and 14th that brought him back to the pack.

Day saw his three-stroke advantage disappear over that two-hole stretch and a disappointing par on the par-5 15th left Day with work to do on Quail Hollow Club’s famed Green Mile. Three of the toughest seven holes statistically on the course, coupled with the pressure of playing in the final group on a Sunday on the PGA Tour, Day rose to the occasion and then some. 


Day piped a drive 379 (!) yards into the fairway, setting up an approach 114 yards from the pin.

The one-stroke advantage wasn’t enough for Day. Facing the 230-yard par-3 17th, Day dialed in a 7-iron that hit in the middle of the green and nearly went in for an improbable ace.

An up-and-down for par on the 72nd hole earned Day his second win of the season, adding the Wells Fargo trophy to the Torrey Pine he won at the Farmers Insurance Open.


Day will head to TPC Sawgrass this week where he won the Players Championship in 2016.
