Daly Plays From Water Hazard With His Shoes On

John Daly never ceases to amaze. During the second round of the PGA Tour Champions’ Chubb Classic, the two-time major winner found his ball half-submerged in a water hazard on the par-5 17th hole at TwinEagles Club in Naples. Normally, you’ll see a player remove their shoes, socks, and throw on the waterproofs in a pre-emptive effort to remain as dry, and more importantly clean, as possible.

The thing is John Daly plays by his own rules. With only one hole to go and not exactly being contention, Daly opted to walk into the water like he was on vacation at the beach and literally played it as it lies as if he were in the middle of the fairway. He ended up making bogey and finished the week in a tie for 30th. It’s been a less than stellar start than Daly has hoped for in his Champions debut season, especially coming off a WD last week at the Allianz Championship.

In other news, Phil chipped in three times (two for eagles) in nine holes en route to back-nine 32 on Sunday during his final round at the Genesis Open. He finished in a pedestrian T-34, but still, three times in nine holes! Classic Lefty.
