Jordan Spieth Continues To Roll It, Leads By Three

You can’t stop Jordan Spieth, you can only hope to contain him. The 24-year-old wunderkind continued his assault on Glen Oaks Club on Saturday during the third round of The Northern Trust where he fired a 6-under par 64 putting on yet another clinic carding 8 birdies and carrying a three-shot lead into the final day.

Spieth got his round started with an uncharacteristic bogey on the par-4 first, but then righted the ship as he usually does with his flat stick by rolling in four birdies on the front side including this 23-footer that found the bottom of the cup on the par-4 eighth.

While he made another bogey on the par-4 ninth, Spieth went back to work with a bounce-back birdie on the par-4 10th. Then he made the most of moving day by running off three in a row on 14, 15 and 16 en route to a back nine 31.

“I wish I was a lot more neutral with my putting,” Spieth said after his round. “But the fact that I’m able to flip that switch mentally … is advantageous. It’s certainly an advantage I feel I have, that I can do.

“But you know, I need to hold steady. I’ve still missed some putts inside of five (feet) this week, quite a few of them, and on afternoon poa annua, it’s likely to happen again.”

Dating back to Friday, Spieth has now birdied 14 of his last 27 holes! In case the field wants any more bad news, he’s a perfect 5-for-5 converting a win when holding a two or more shot lead after 54 holes.

The top-ranked player in the world, Dustin Johnson, trails by three after posting a 3-under par 67, while a host of players including Patrick Reed and Matt Kuchar are five back at 7-under par.

Here’s a look at Saturday’s action.
