Jordan Spieth Makes History, Wins At Pebble Beach

Jordan Spieth cruised to a four-shot victory at the AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am on Sunday by firing a two-under par 70, that included 16 pars and two birdies. This was his ninth victory on the PGA Tour. For some context, only Tiger Woods got to nine wins quicker than Spieth, and that includes Jack Nicklaus.

Taking a six-shot lead heading into the final round, Spieth knew exactly what he had to do. “Played a lot of boring golf today,” Spieth said afterward, “which was exactly what we needed.” And that he did. He got his day started with a birdie on the par-5 second and then made a string of pars while his lead got cut to three. Then on the famous par-3 17th-hole, he drained a 29-foot birdie putt to seal the victory.

“This is a bucket-list place to win — here, Augusta National, St. Andrews, there’s only a few in the world. It feels really special. It was amazing walking up the 18th green knowing that we were going to win. It’s just such a unique position. I tried to soak in.”

When asked about being in the same class as Tiger and Jack, Spieth was humbled.

“I think less of [the comparisons] than I have in the past, but it’s an honor, it really is an honor,” Spieth said. “But getting to where you’re the first guy, even including Tiger, to do something, is maybe the next goal. But that might be pretty hard.”

Kelly Kraft recorded his highest finish on the PGA Tour as runner-up and Dustin Johnson claimed third place. Meanwhile, Brandt Sneadker, who’s won this event twice and was playing in the final group with Spieth, had to settle for fourth.

Here’s a look at the final round highlights and leaderboard.
