Kevin Na Is Not a Fan of U.S. Open Fescue

The USGA is known to go to great lengths just to preserve par. Whether that’s a good thing or a bad thing is a matter of opinion. As relatively unknown Erin Hills Golf Course prepares to host the U.S. Open for the first time this week, many players who’ve never seen it are getting acquainted with it as well. A few things we know: it’s long (scorecard reads 7,812 yards), the fairways are wide (about 50% wider than past venues), and according to Kevin Na, the fescue is borderline unplayable.

On Sunday, Na posted this video on Instagram showing us first hand what players will be facing this week while already expressing his displeasure with the USGA’s setup. Bottom line, it doesn’t look pretty:

“Why can’t we have a lot of the past U.S. Open winners get together and set up a major?” Na asks at the end of the clip. “I’d like to see that happen one day.”

Somewhere USGA Executive Director Mike Davis is watching this on loop and smiling. Thursday can’t come soon enough!
