Koepka Calls For Firing After U.S. Open Promo Snub

The Brooks Koepka Disrespect Tour is at Pebble Beach this week as the 4-time major champion goes for a three-peat of his national championship at the U.S. Open.

Despite winning his fourth major in his last eight starts last month at the PGA Championship at Bethpage Black, Koepka still had a gripe — and a legitimate one at that — when he got into the media center on Tuesday of tournament week.

Asked about the ever-present chip on his shoulder, Koepka explained that his most recent slight came at the hands of the Fox Sports team who will be broadcasting the USGA’s biggest championship for the fourth time.

“I think a lot of it just comes from certain things,” Koepka began. “There’s a commercial (running) now where I’m not even in it, and Fox put it up for a preview of the U.S. Open. So I don’t know. You guys tell me. I wasn’t on “notables” (page of the 2018 U.S. Open scoreboard the year) after winning. There’s a couple of things where it’s just mind-boggling how — it’s like, really? Like, how do you forget that?”

Koepka continued that he can manufacture his own slights if needed, but most of the time, he is able to find someone or something that spurs him on. This week, it’s the broadcast partner of the event that opted to keep him out of their promo despite him winning each of the past two editions.

“I actually didn’t see it for a long time,” Koepka said of the promo that featured the likes of Rory McIlroy, Jordan Spieth and Tiger Woods, among other past champions. “A bunch of people on Twitter I think tagged me in it, in the promo and were amazed that I wasn’t in it.

“I just clicked on the link and saw it and watched it. Just kind of shocked. They’ve had over a year to kind of put it out. So I don’t know. Somebody probably got fired over it or should.”

It appears as if someone from Fox was definitely paying attention to Koepka’s press conference because not long after he left the dais did a new promo land on the Fox Sports YouTube channel that featured a certain two-time defending champion quite prominently.

With apologies to the other 155 men in the field this week, it wouldn’t stand to reason that Koepka will have been satisfied with the last-minute promo.
