Koepka Denies Altercation With DJ

Brooks Koepka is the highest-ranked player the field at this week’s Alfred Dunhill Links, and despite early pressroom snubs, the three-time major champion was requested to come to the interview room this week.

Fresh off of a Ryder Cup loss in which he went 1-2-1 and reportedly had to be separated and held back from good friend Dustin Johnson in the aftermath, Koepka address the reports during his pre-tournament press conference by denying that anything at all had happened.

“This Dustin thing, I just don’t get,” he said. “There was no fight, no argument. He’s one of my best friends. I love the kid to death. We talked on the phone Monday and yesterday, so you tell me how we fought.

“People like to make a story and run with it. It’s not the first time there’s been a news story that isn’t true that’s gone out.”

The story, which was first reported by James Corrigan and confirmed on Tuesday by GolfChannel.com’s Tim Rosaforte, alleged that Koepka and Johnson had to be separated after nearly coming to blows following the conclusion of the biennial competition.

The reason the two American stars were angered was not known and considered unusual by many in attendance, according to the reports. Johnson’s fiancée, Paulina Gretzky was said to be nearby and, according to a wife of a European player, Gretzky was “clearly shocked and upset by the nastiness, which was very threatening.”
